Korg nanoKEY 25 Key USB Controller Keyboard, Black Review

Korg nanoKEY 25 Key USB Controller Keyboard, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Korg Nano Series is, quite simply, among the most useful sets of tools ever produced for the COMPUTER... Let me say that word again: "COMPUTER."
I write, arrange and orchestrate music for a living. The nanoKey, in particular, is a lifesaver! It's portable, so I can stuff it into my laptop bag when I'm on the road. It works seamlessly with Finale, Encore and - my personal favorite - Sibelius (the "Big 3" of notation programs). It isn't as convenient for real-time sequencing, unless you've developed "the touch." It took me a while to get used to that, but I do play scratch tracks in Logic and Sonar, on occasion.
Anyone considering the purchase of this device should realize up front that it isn't really designed for stage performance, etc. It's best suited for computer entry. In fact, it's PERFECTLY suited for computer entry.
...and for fifty bucks it's WAY ahead of anything else!

The nanoKEY is an ultra-compact keyboard controller, featuring a great-feeling 25-key velocity-sensitive keyboard that's ideal for song production. Each key on this USB-MIDI controller can also be set to send MIDI control data, further expanding its power.

The Korg nanoSERIES The Korg nanoSERIES provide a keyboard controller, a pad controller, and a studio controller with dedicated transport controls. Each of these USB-powered, slim-line controllers is designed to make the most of your valuable studio space, and is small enough to take with you on any musical journey. Place one of our keyboard controllers in front of your laptop, rest a pad controller on your music workstation, park a studio controller on your recording console--or anywhere else you need versatile control over your DAW, virtual instrument, effect or DJ software. Although small in size, all three nanoSERIES controllers go huge when it comes to functionality, yet their intuitive layouts provide extremely easy operation for any user.

nanoKEY--A Flexible MIDI Keyboard Controller That's Smaller Than a Laptop KeyboardWhen Korg set out to build a slim-line MIDI controller keyboard, they utilized their years of experience in manufacturing innovative MIDI keyboards to create a great-feeling, velocity sensitive keyboard based off a laptop keyboard. The resulting 25-note keyboard on the nanoKEY will transmit your playing dynamics to your software accurately and expressively. In CC (Control Change) MODE, the keys become MIDI controllers, allowing you to control any MIDI assignable parameters within your software.

The Octave Shift function offers immediate access to the entire MIDI note range. Pitch and modulation buttons are also provided, giving your performances the kind of expression that you would expect from any controller regardless of its size.

eMedia My Piano Starter Pack for Kids Review

eMedia My Piano Starter Pack for Kids
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this keyboard for my 7 year old to learn piano. It is a nice keyboard with a lot of instrument sounds, built-in drums and songs. It also comes with a great software program to use with the computer.
She really has latched onto the program and we have worked on it a little every night since we got it. There are some cute elements to it like a talking piano. However, the lessons are serious and have videos of the teacher showing piano skills. We hook it up to our Mac with a cable it comes with. When you play along with the songs, the program points out where you mis-played. It then shows you on the keyboard the mistake and what you should have played.
The keyboard itself seems well made. It has smaller keys than on my piano but that works well for a 7 year old. Their are plenty of instrument sounds for kids to play around with and the drum are fun to play oven. The songs that are built into the keyboard are not as good as the songs that are on the software program, so we have not done too much with that feature. You can see the songs played on the LCD screen on the keyboard but it is so much easier to learn from the software program that shows the music notation on a big screen with a animated piano that plays along with you.
This is great to either a self motivated kid who wants to learn to play or if you you to do it together.

Sabine MT9000 MetroTune Chromatic Tuner and Metronome (LCD) Review

Sabine MT9000 MetroTune Chromatic Tuner and Metronome (LCD)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The metronome function is decent, but could be louder.
The tuner cannot register any notes in the bottom third of my tenor trombone range. Whenever I play a low note, the tuner gets utterly confused and becomes unable to register higher notes as well. Definitely don't buy this tuner if you're a low brass player. Perhaps this tuner was meant for string instruments?
If you're looking for an excellent tuner, I highly recommend the Boss TU-12H.

eMedia Learn To Play Piano & Keyboard Pack with USB Cable Review

eMedia Learn To Play Piano and Keyboard Pack with USB Cable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was reluctant to make this purchase after reading so many negative reviews; however, I am now very pleased that I went against what I believed to be my better judgment. I have been dedicating about six hours each week to this product for the last four or five months. When I began, I possessed only the most limited of knowledge with regard to sight reading, keeping time, and rhythm. I now have to admit, though I still have much to learn, that I can play the piano because of this product (although playing well will inevitably take some time). This system worked wonders for me and was much cheaper than the alternative of paying weekly for lessons, yet I must encourage you to read the following.
WARNING:
- Children should not be subjected to this product, as they might experience severe boredom if product is applied directly (some instances of secondhand boredom have been reported in children under 16 that have even come into indirect contact with this product). That is, the lessons are far from engaging and should not be expected to keep a child's attention for even one moment. This might be particularly true when the child has no actual interest in learning how to play the piano, other than appeasing mom.
- The software (and hardware) is, in fact, flakey. This being said, the software and keyboard have always worked for me, even if it did require a few additional steps from time to time. I discovered that one of the primary issues with the keyboard is that it will not work if the latest QuickTime update has not been installed. Considering the speed at which new QuickTime updates are made available, it is easy to see why this might require an update check quite frequently. At one point I also had to visit the company's website to download the latest drivers, since which time I have experienced no further issues. I have also realized that the keyboard will not communicate properly with the program if it is not turned on prior to opening the learning modules. If all else fails...rebooting has always worked.
Even with these seemingly significant drawbacks, my own results with this product prevent me from doing anything other than singing its praises. The cost/benefit ratio, in my opinion, appears to have worked out in my favor. If you are an adult that seriously (serious enough to sit through monotone instructions and no-frill lessons) wishes to learn how to play the piano, I would recommend this product. I would also recommend utilizing these modules with a (not necessarily the one provided in this bundle, although it's not terrible) MIDI controller/keyboard, as there is great benefit to be had from the controller/software interaction and feedback.

My Piano Review

My Piano
Average Reviews:

I found this to be a great product in teaching kids to learn to play. I am 30 with no music abilities and I have learned to play part of a song in the first few mins. My daughter is 4 and she loves to watch and play the games at the end of each lesson. Then she goes to the keyboard and tries. I did not expect her to learn since it is recommended for age 6 and over, but the interest is there and she will learn someday.
I have Windows XP and no blank screens

My Piano is a unique and fun way for kids ages 6 and up to learn how to play piano or keyboard! An animated character named Pam the Piano guides kids through over 100 lessons by former Juilliard School of Music instructor Irma Irene Justicia, M.A. My Piano covers the basics, such as proper hand position and rhythm, and moves on to reading music notation, playing songs and more. An animated keyboard shows kids where to put their fingers as the music plays, and the speed of the music can be adjusted with MIDI tracks so that each child can learn at his or her own pace. When used with a MIDI keyboard, kids get instant feedback on their playing, telling them which notes were played incorrectly and what should have been played instead. Separate audio tracks (left / right hand, full song / voice only) and colorful MIDI accompaniments provide exciting options to have fun with. My Piano is the complete program that will get your child playing piano!Built-in accessories: Digital Metronome: Kids can keep a steady beat with audio and/or visual feedback. Digital Recorder: Allows kids to record and play themselves back for friends and family to hear! Research has proven that children who play a musical instrument do better in school, form friendships more easily and gain self-confidence. Suzuki Gp-7 Digital Baby Grand Ensemble Piano, High Gloss Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like my piano. It not only sounds nice, but it also is visually much more appealing than similar priced competitors products. The keys feel very nice with the weighting and tactile feedback. The volume is adequate and at the higher settings make it indistinguishable from a stringed piano. Word to the wise though - this baby is NOT light!I thought that if I bought an electric piano it would be more portable. NOT! The delivery service would NOT bring it into my home and it took two strong men using a hand cart to get this bad-boy safely into my home. Some assembly is required. Trust me on this; often when instructions say it is a two man job you can make do solo - this is not the case with this piano. Get ready for some heavy lifting...

On Stage KS7350 Pro Heavy Duty Folding Z Keyboard Stand Review

On Stage KS7350 Pro Heavy Duty Folding Z Keyboard Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The stand is good, but the company has been lazy about updating the specifications. The stand adjusts to 33" wide, no longer to 36". There is also a discrepancy as to how much weight it will support, either 375 pounds or 500 (both numbers are claimed). The stand now has a small, vertical support not shown in the picture, between the cross-bars, so perhaps the higher number is correct. They also did not bother to list the number of height adjustments (5) or how far apart they are (about 3"). The height adjustments could be improved -- although there are some guiding marks, it's not easy to tell when one is exactly in the right place (so that a hole is used); it does not suddenly feel "in the hole," and one might easily miss the right notch, which could be dangerous at higher weights (where it might suddenly slip).

Casio LK-270 Premium Lighted Keyboard Pack with Power Supply, Keyboard Stand and Professional Closed Cup Stereo Headphones Review

Casio LK-270 Premium Lighted Keyboard Pack with Power Supply, Keyboard Stand and Professional Closed Cup Stereo Headphones
Average Reviews:

Sounds - 5/5
The sounds are very realistic, with the new sound engine they have put in place, when playing the piano sounds beside a real piano, the difference is almost impossible to notice, the tones and accompaniments are also very great.
Step up lessons - 5/5
The lessons are great, they phase the music, and you take it in steps, and if its too fast for you, you can by the press of a button, slow it down to your speed, its user friendly.
Connections - 5/5
The USB MIDI function just works effortlessy, works with keyboard learning software, Finale 2009, and much more, when I opened Finale with the MIDI connected, it just started interpreting what I was playing without have to configure anything in the software.
Look & Layout - 5/5
It looks great, although 61 keys, very convenient, its very light, u can easily carry the stand and the keyboard around without much effort, the layout is very user friendly and its easy to navigate, and the user manual tells you how to perform tasks in detail not readily seen. The Key-lighting function is really cool and very helpful in the step up lessons, only 10 can light at a time, but its also very cool for night playing as well.
Overall - 5/5
Its a great keyboard, I'd recommend it for anyone, dont spend so much on a keyboard just yet, this is the one you must get, if 61-keys is all you need, otherwise, feel free to check out the 88-keys keyboards.

Casio SA-75 Keyboard with Headset Microphone Review

Casio SA-75 Keyboard with Headset Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For just a little more than a toy keyboard you can get something that really works. This keyboard can do up to four notes at once, so children can learn about both chords and melodies. The sound quality is better than I expected considering the price, and it run on nice cheap AA batteries that can be bought in bulk. Battery changing is easy.
The one downside is that the lowest volume level isn't all that low. It's impossible to just play this quitely at a volume level low enough so that only the one playing can hear. Also, it comes with a microphone, and when that is plugged in, the sound can be heard all over the house with the volume set to it's lowest level.
Edit Jan 21 2011: And yes, it comes with a headphone jack just in case the volume won't go low enough. So, since that's my primary gripe with this thing, I changed my review to five stars.
So, it's a nice way to introduce children to music, but it's a loud way because it doesn't allow a truly low volume setting.

Yamaha YPT320 61-Key Portable Keyboard Review

Yamaha YPT320 61-Key Portable Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Very nice keyboard for a beginner or an experienced musician.
Tons of great features which I have yet to learn. Sounds very realistic, better then Casio keyboards.
The only dissapointment was that on the product discription page it does not say that keyboard comes with AC adapter. Based on the description and the suggestion from Amazon that together with the keyboard customers were buying AC adapter; I ordered AC adapter separately. Now I have 2 adapters, one of them is collecting dust and was additional expense to me for no reason. Beware! Do not order separate AC adapter with this keyboard, it already comes with one. I give 4 stars because of that, otherwise it would be 5.
I also ordered Yamaha L3C Attachable Keyboard Stand for this keyboard. Yamaha does not say it's compatible with YPT-320, but it fits nicesly. I like the fact that the stand is screwed to the bottom of the keyboard so it will not fly off the stand, like it can do from one of those X-style stands.
Update May 12th, 2011. Since Amazon finally updated the product description and now it states that AC adapter is included I am changing my rating to 5 stars. The keyboard is awesome and performs very well.

For the money, you will not find a better keyboard that has killer organs, pianos, clavinets and electric pianos (Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer styles). The Nord Stage 2 has several key features including splits and layers that make it well worth an upgrade. If you're looking for strictly organs, be sure to check out the Fatar Numa. Jazz great Joey De Francesco is now endorsing the Numa. Both Yamaha and Roland have decent stage pianos as well. But I have to give 5 stars to the Nord for versatility, sound, feel and function.

M-Audio Keystation 61es 61-Key Keyboard Review

M-Audio Keystation 61es 61-Key Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was surprised at the low price of this keyboard considering it has 61 semi-weighted keys. I thought maybe it wouldn't be such great quality but I was pleasantly surprised.
I thought at first that the keys were a little bit "springy", but I soon got used to them. So much so that when I went back to my old Yamaha keyboard (not weighted), the Yamaha felt terrible. This M-Audio lets you play nice and subtle.
There's not much to this keyboard, just a couple of very smooth acting wheels (pitch and modulation), a volume slider and a couple of function buttons. It all seems well-made and the keyboard is heavier than I expected.
I was pleased to find that when I took it out of its box, plugged in the USB cable and opened GarageBand, everything worked perfectly, immediately. No messing about.
It works well with GarageBand (not tried it with anything else), and being powered by the USB cable means it's dead easy to plug in and start playing.
At this price, I can't see how you can go wrong.

Korg OT-120 Wide 8 Octave Chromatic Orchestral Tuner Review

Korg OT-120 Wide 8 Octave Chromatic Orchestral Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this for tuning my violin and piano, assuming it would do a great job on the violin (it does) but was wary of how it would work on the piano. I had been using a Peterson Virtual Stobe tuner for years, using standard piano-tuning techniques and equipment, and preferred tuning to a strobe rather than to a needle or LEDs. But battery leakage had put my VS out of commission. With the Peterson VS having its own imperfections, and a new one now running 3-4 times the cost of the Korg OT-120, I decided to give the Korg a try. (I also purchased the clip mike just in case its built-in mike balked at some of the overtones on my older piano.) I now use the Korg OT-120 regularly, not only to tune my piano and violin, but also as a practicing aid for the violin. It's very responsive and useful in verifying that I'm hitting pitch. After a few months of use I can say that the Korg OT-120 has exceeded my expectations for ease-of-use, value, and effectiveness for tuning my violin and piano, and for practice (strings). The tone generator is useful for ear training as well as for tuning. The display is smaller than I'm used to on the Peterson, but then again the Korg is much more portable. The clip microphone has come in handy for tuning some of the trickier strings at the lower and higher octaves, but I don't need to use it very often. Although I prefer the strobe for how it linearly visualizes pitch adjustment, it took less than half a tuning session to re-adapt to a needle/LED style display. Note: The Peterson has a larger number of tuning temperments than the Korg, so if you're tuning for early music make sure to review the temperments available on the Korg before buying. Nor can you store custom temperments on it.

Tune string and wind instruments in a flash with the OT-120, a new band and orchestral tuner that combines the accuracy of needle-type meters with superior functionality, wide tuning range and a new, sleek vertical design.

Vertical Design and Superior Visibility The Korg OT-120 chromatic band and orchestral tuner is intended for orchestral instruments, packing precise performance and sophisticated functionality in a vertical design that's easy to hold and operate. The Korg OT-120 features a dual-display, an easy-to-see needle-type indicator and a backlit LCD screen that shows the battery life, sound output level, calibration, as well as key and note name. Additional design features include a large dial that makes it easy to select the desired mode, soft-touch buttons and a rear-mounted stand that lets the band and orchestral tuner stand by itself. A sophisticated silver aluminum panel contributes to its sleek, new look.
Accurately Tune Orchestral Instruments Over a Wide Range Since we developed the world's first meter-type tuner in 1975, the accuracy of Korg tuners has made them the choice of artists in all styles of music. With its wide tuning range extending from A0 to C8, the OT-120 lets you quickly tune any type of band instrument including, orchestra, wind, string, brass or piano. The Korg OT-120 also provides a wide range of calibration to support concert pitches in a range of 349-499 Hz (1 Hz steps).
Smooth and Precise Tuning This band and orchestral tuner uses a high-precision needle-type meter to accurately indicate any pitch discrepancy. The speed at which the needle responds to the input can be changed over a range of three steps; you can choose fast, medium or slow speeds to match your tuning preference.
You can also choose from two tuning modes; Auto mode, which automatically detects the pitch of a single note you play on your instrument, or Manual mode, which lets you specify the desired note name. In Manual mode, the needle movement is shown in a range of 50 cents, letting you view the tuning discrepancy over a wide range. In addition to the excellent visibility unique to a needle-type meter, the LEDs located below the meter also indicate pitch deviation or a perfect match, making precise tuning easy even in dim locations.
Sound Back Mode for Tuning String or Wind Instruments The OT-120 produces a reference tone in a five-octave range extending from C2 (65.41 Hz) to C7 (2093 Hz). You can switch the output level in two stages. The large speaker allows for more volume while not being obstructed even when using the stand, ensuring that the reference tone is clearly audible.
The OT-120 also provides Korg's proprietary Sound Back mode. This mode lets you connect an optional CM-100L contact microphone to the input jack, and automatically make the OT-120's speaker produce a reference tone for the note that is closest to the input pitch you play on your instrument. The meter will also indicate the input pitch, letting you tune using your eyes as well as your ears for greater accuracy--and also providing a great way to train your sense of pitch.
Support for Transposing Instruments and Historical Temperaments For conveniently tuning any wind instrument, twelve types of transposing keys are provided in this band and orchestral tuner, including both sharps and flats. The Multi Temperament function provides eight presets that cover the most popular historical temperaments often used with period instruments. These are also ideal for checking unique temperaments used in classical music.
Long Battery Life The OT-120 is designed for an extended battery life of approximately 100 hours when running on two AAA batteries. It can also be used with an AC adaptor (sold separately).
Soft Case Included A durable, suede-tone soft case is included. Korg band and orchestral tuners purchased from a Korg USA authorized dealer now have a three year warranty.
