Casio WK-500 76-Key Personal Keyboard Package with Stand, Headphones and Power Supply Review

Casio WK-500 76-Key Personal Keyboard Package with Stand, Headphones and Power Supply
Average Reviews:

I would say that the keyboard itself is fairly nice. If you are a beginner, then this keyboard is a great start. It comes with tons of tones, some beats, a metronome, a distortion wheel, SD card slot, and a USB port. You can also layer tones, split them, and record your own. The stand and power supply also help make this product work.
The headphones are the cheapest thing in the box, and you can tell just by handling them. My headphones also arrived broken! The left ear piece is loose, and "jiggles" LOUDLY every time I move my head! This fact also makes the left ear sound very muffled (compared to the right ear) I would attempt to fix this problem myself, but the headphones are all one piece! Everything is glued together. I would literally have to break and tear these things apart in order to fix the loose speaker. How annoying. Buyer beware.
This keyboard also does not come with a sustain pedal, or USB cable. I was aware of this fact before I purchased the keyboard, so I had to purchase them separately. I think they should have included the pedal and USB cable, instead of those cheap headphones. It would have been worth the price I paid, and a 5 star rating. Or, they should at least charge less for this product.
I gave this product three stars based on what came in the box, and overall product quality as compared to the price that I paid.

Korg MICROPIANOBK 61-Key Portable Keyboard Review

Korg MICROPIANOBK 61-Key Portable Keyboard
Average Reviews:

Korg uses their mini-keys for this, and at first glance you'd think that would lump it into the "toy" category. Not so. I'm a classically trained pianist and I can honestly say -- this is the first mini-key controller that I felt I could actually play expressively. The piano sounds are exceptional. I played with it at NAMM and was blown away. I think Korg has done an exceptional job at making these things musically useful. Granted it is not a full-featured controller. But look over the feature set, and if it's got what you need, rest assured that it's actually a pleasure to play. A+

Yamaha DGX230 76 Full-Sized Piano Style Keys, 489 Instrument Voices Review

Yamaha DGX230 76 Full-Sized Piano Style Keys, 489 Instrument Voices
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I now own two these. One I leave at my band's practice site, the other I keep at home and then take with me for performances. At $200 there's no sense hauling the practice instrument back and forth. Of course, it's not a professional keyboard and will rate sneers from real keyboardists. But for my purposes providing chording and some embellishments for a couple of local bands, it works just fine . . . especially great sound for the "rock organ" setting . . . and I also use the violin voice for country songs and the various saxophone voices on occasion. I have no idea about the other features of the keyboard as a learning device . . . but for an inexpensive, good-sounding, sturdy and dependable keyboard, it's great.

Williams Symphony Console Digital Piano Review

Williams Symphony Console Digital Piano
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Williams Symphany Console Digital Piano for my own playing as well as for teaching. I wanted something economical that had the look and feel of a real piano. While the instrument was fine for teaching beginning to intermediate students, I found it was a horrible choice for my own playing. I had to press some of the keys very hard to get a sound out and then it was very loud, so it was impossible to achieve the delicate balance necessary for some of the classical pieces I was trying to play. I don't know what "4-level touch sensitivity" means, but it doesn't even come close to a real piano. Finally, after owning the instrument only 3-4 years, some of the keys are permanently stuck in the depressed position, so now I cannot play it at all! I am so sorry I bought this instrument. What a complete and utter waste of money!

Yamaha YPT-220 61 Key Personal Keyboard with AC Adapter Review

Yamaha YPT-220 61 Key Personal Keyboard with AC Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just learned how to play the guitar and I really wanted to tackle another musical instrument, so I thought of the piano. As I am on a really tight budget and have such a small space I went with this keyboard, the Yamaha YPT-220 and I'm glad that I did.
I've only had it for about three days but already can play a few things. It comes with a built in Y.E.S. (Yamaha Education Suite)which teaches you how to play over 100 songs. However, you may have to pause frequently because the notes are played standard, not slowed down. Now, there were some complaints about not being able to hit the lower notes, which you cannot on this keyboard. In order to do that you'll need the 76 key keyboard. But, if you are like me and on a tight budget or have a small space then this keyboard is perfect.
I've been going on Youtube and seeing how to play certain songs that I like and so far all the songs I want to play, it's been possible because there are just enough keys. Also, this keyboard DOES come with the power adapter and it does work. This keyboard is made of plastic, so don't expect anything metal. I don't have a problem with it being made of plastic. It doesn't take away from the overall look of the keyboard. Please do be aware that the keys are not just like piano keys. They are close, but they are not weighted. So, be careful when pressing them. I feel that I got my money's worth out of it and am not disappointed.

Casio LK-100 Lighted Keyboard with Premium Accessories Package Review

Casio LK-100 Lighted Keyboard with Premium Accessories Package
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We recently started suspecting that our 2 year old has perfect pitch, like her father and her grandmother before her. So all the little toy keyboards that she loved to play with which were all off-key were become problematic. However, it was almost impossible to find a toy keyboard that was actually in tune and not off key. We bought and returned probably a half dozen. Then, the grandparents stepped in and started laying pressure to buy her an actual keyboard. This was the result.
The keyboard has a wonderful sound and plenty of demo songs to keep young children busy. I love that it lights up and it helps illustrate the concept for children who are just learning about music and notes. The keyboard is lighter than I expected. And for the price, it was a good compromise over the toy keyboards. It's also great that it comes with a stand, headphones, and an adapter. Many of the high-end casio keybaords, for some reason, do not even include an adapter.
I do warn, however, that this is a beginner keyboard. It's good for exposing your child and just to test drive to see whether or not your kid's piano interest isn't going to be just a passing phase. However, the keyboard is not going to grow with any serious piano players. There is no touch sensitivity, which is so important to learning to play the piano adequately. And I was disappointed to see that there was no USB connectivity, which you can get with the slightly more expensive Casio models.
But, all in all, I'm satisfied that I'm getting my money's worth. But if you want more features and more piano-like sound/feel, then you'll have to pay more.
If you found this review helpful, please let me know!

Casio PX-120 Privia Digital Piano Review

Casio PX-120 Privia Digital Piano
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the Casio PX-120 because it was the least expensive digital piano that met my requirements -- it's a full keyboard, has a very life-like piano feel, will allow you to practice with headphones, and -- with 128 note polyphony -- does not suffer from drop-outs in complex playing contexts. The keyboard instruments (two grand pianos, two electric pianos, a harpsichord, and a pipe organ) and the vibraphone are all pleasing to my ears. My worry with this and its Casio and Yamaha cognates were that a depressingly large number of people seem to report defective products in this price-range. It appears that M Williams was saddled with one of the bad ones -- there appears to be a tendency for the speakers to be defective in this model (although I have not seen anyone else report having problems with the headphone jacks.) Since everything that I researched that was within a couple hundred dollars of this unit also had a fair number of reports of failures out of the box, I decided to take a chance on this one.
So far, so good. I am delighted with the sound quality and the feel of the instrument. It would be nice if there were more attention to QC during manufacture of this class of digital piano, but it does appear to be a bit of a crap shoot. So, if you decide to get one of these pianos, you may well want to make sure that the dealer is reputable and will swap it out without giving you a problem if you get a bad one. If you get a good one, it is a real treasure at a very attractive price point.
