Nord Stage EX 88, 88-Key Stage Piano with Weighted, Hammer-Action Keys (AMS-NSEX88) Review

For a multi-keyboardist wanting to consolidate, this is the best product you can buy. The Rhodes, Wurli, and clavinet sounds are great, the B3 simulator is close to perfect, and the acoustic pianos (especially on the latest model) are deep, crisp, and very different from one another. The effects section is basic but good for most of what you'd want to do with a keyboard instrument. I'm still getting used to the synth section -- it seems promising, but is structured differently to the other analog modeling architectures I've used, and seems less conducive to tweaking. The action is good, and is obviously a compromise between the ideal actions for the various instruments the Stage is simulating.
Nevertheless -- with some flexible split and layering options, and great retro keyboard sounds, you could use the Stage EX 88 to replace a Hammond and a Rhodes, and save your roadies a lot of back-ache!

Nord Electro 3, 73-Key Electronic Stage Piano and Organ (AMS-NE373) Review

Nord Electro 3, 73-Key Electronic Stage Piano and Organ (AMS-NE373)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I sold my Electro 2 so I could partially buy the latest model. After using it a few weeks it's clear how much better it could have been. Here are the good and bad:
Good:
- New sounds including Vox Continental, Farfisa, harpsichords and samples.
- Better Hammond organ sound.
- Better piano sounds but they take up a lot of memory and do not have keyboard resonance features of the Nord Stage EX.
- Sample software allows you to create your own sounds, organize your patches and is easy to use.
- More built-in effects including reverb, compression and 3 different amplifier distortions.
- USB (not MIDI) interface to download patches.
Bad:
- Limiting up/down buttons plus A/B patch selector makes it difficult to get to the sounds you want quickly. The Electro 2 had 8 buttons plus bank up/down which is more useable.
- Unergonomic button layout makes navigation difficult. For example, the shift button is too far from the organ presets making it impossible to play and switch presets at the same time.
- Lack of effect amount knobs as on the Electro 2. You are stuck with toggling through only 3 preset amount settings.
- Ring modulation should not be an oscillator like tremelo. The Electro 2 is correct.
- New Vox and Farfisa sounds aren't that accurate.-
- Expression pedal always effects organ volume so there is no way to do Wah-Wah organ.
- Only 64 MB of onboard sample library memory means you'll be limited to how many sounds you can use at a time.
- Sample software is limiting and doesn't allow for more than one sample per key, assigning polyphony, glide (portamento) or other patch functions.
- No pitch wheel. Nord provides many synthesizer samples but, there's no way to control them. The Electro 3 cannot receive pitch bend MIDI commands from another keyboard either.
- No modulation wheel. Why bother having any synthesizer sounds without modulation.
- Same non-weighted keyboard feels junky.
- Expensive.

Much like it's predecessors, the Nord Electro 3 Seventythree stage piano/organ meets the demands of the performing keyboard player. It offers up some of the best stuff Nord has to offer in affordable and easy-to-use instruments. The keyboard is compatible with the Nord Piano library and takes full advantage of the Library's multitude of velocity layers, pedal-down samples, and extremely high quality samples providing you with unprecedented expressiveness. The keybed itself features a 73-key (6 octaves) velocity-sensitive, semi-weighted "waterfall" (square front) keyboard to help make this possible. Any current or future piano that is available for the Stage family will also automatically be available to the Nord Electro 3.Exquisited New PianosRight from the start, the Electro 3 is loaded with a great selection of pianos. There are 3 acoustic grands (2 Yamaha C7s and one Steinway D) and 2 electric grands. Electric piano aficionados will love the time-based types; an Mk I, a Suitcase Mk I, an Mk II and an Mk V all with their unique and distinctive personalities. A great Wurlitzer A200 is present, as is the mighty Clavinet D6. The Clavinet type also includes the Harpsichords. There is a French harpsichord in the factory sound bank, and more to come in the Nord Piano Library download area. Each and every one of these pianos can be replaced if you wish. There are plenty more to choose from in the Library area, including some XL versions of Nord's grand pianos, with even more details like added velocity layers and pedal-down samples. And all those sounds are available for free.Samples from the Nord LibraryNot only loaded with great piano sounds, the Electro 3 also sports some great samples to add flavor to your sonic arsenal. You'll find some of the classic Mellotron sounds, a selection of strings, celeste, vibraphone, and many others. And, just as with the piano partition, all of the samples can be replaced if the factory selection does not suit your immediate needs. You

I bought this for my wife because I didn't think she would stick with it. She is having fun with it, and it has a lot of neat extras. Great for beginners, but more advanced music needs will need more.
If you're buying a keyboard for a kid or someone that isn't a professional, this is a great deal.

On-Stage Stands KB8802R Rosewood Keyboard Bench Review

On-Stage Stands KB8802R Rosewood Keyboard Bench
Average Reviews:

It's been a month and I don't find any issue with it. I am about 190 lbs heavy.
The only potential issue is some edge is sharp, not round so it might be an issue for a baby practicing stand ups, however i don't think this is a problem in normal situation.
The bench would have been perfect if it had a room to store stuff underneath - I couldn't tell this when reading the product description.

Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano Review

Casio CDP 100 Digital Piano
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this item for my wife who is an acoomplished pianist. She has a grand piano and has played and taught piano (private and college level).
Reason for purchase, to have a portable item that could be used by us in churches or situations where a decent paino was not available. This unit is very portable. A little bulkier then the smaller keyboards but you do have the benefit of a standard piano keyboard.
She is happy with the tone quality and action of the keys. The Casio will definately handle most of the music that she would play.
She realizes that this does not compare to her grand piano but she admits that it is an excellent item for the money.
The only drawback is that it does not have a dedicated line to hook into an amplifier. An adapter has to be used on the headphones jack.
Definately a good buy.

Roland Cube Monitor / PA Review

Roland Cube Monitor / PA
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm frankly sick and tired of showing up for a gig and having my keyboard run through the P.A., thereby in essence causing me to forfeit all control of the instrument to the bandleader (or board op). Still, I've had to concede that the amps I've been using--a Roland KC150, then a KC350--had plenty of power and pop but no sonic attributes that would recommend them above the Bose P.A. set-up the band uses. Then, because I needed a small amp with an XLR connection for use as an emergency P.A., I picked up this relatively new item from Roland, which prominently describes itself as a "monitor" amp (i.e. meant only for the performer's ears).
Was I surprised when I got this thing home and put it through some rounds with a Kurzweil PC2 and SP2. It's little more than a compact brick, but it appears to have the power of my KC150 and, more importantly, in terms of "listenability" it sounds like its several heavens apart from the KC 150 or 350 (those ever-present Roland KC amps will make any piano, including Rolands, sound uninspiring if not boring during the course of a four-hour gig). This latest contender covers the entire piano range, effortlessly, smoothly, providing rich yet responsive bass where its needed and brilliant but not strident highs. Perhaps some would judge the sound a trifle "colored." If so, I'll take the coloration any day to the untempered sounds I've been getting from electric keyboards. The mid-range is tight and controlled, with the upper register "growing out" of it gradually but unmistakably. By contrast, the upper register on the heavy-duty KC amps strikes like a serpent, leaping out of the mix like home-brewed white lightning hitting the palate after it's just gotten accustomed to a vintage Bordeaux.
I even compared this little thing to my previous standard--the Roland Cube 60 that had preceded the KC150 (which has been around too long). This new one was smoother, bending to the bass notes like a gracious willow and springing to the top ones like fresh spring birch. In other words, even the Roland Cube sounded uneven and rough compared to this latest overachiever, which handled the tones of the scale like a single portamento, revealing no holes in any of the registers.
Playing any instrument or amplifier on the job can lead to a judgment radically different from the one made at home. If my instruments (I'm usually playing 2-3) have to be mixed through the P.A., fine. I won't have to listen to them. They'll be processed by this monitor, which will be facing and playing for me before it kicks out the stuff that the bandleader deems worthy of the public's ears.
